Want to assess storage bottlenecks on your next storage project?

I recently answered a question at SearchSystemsChannel.Com on how to address a customer’s storage throughput and bottlenecks. The basic idea is to establish a baseline and go from there. Remember, the bottleneck may not even be in the storage array, itself. There are a lot of poorly coded applications out there that are eager to cause all kinds of bottlenecks ;) .

Why is Linux a more flexible target for Virtualization?

I recently answered this question indirectly on SearchSystemsChannel.Com. Right now, Microsoft’s licensing is so restrictive that it makes VMotion with VMWare Windows Guests next to impossible. Granted, I don’t think Microsoft would bring the hammer down on a customer that was using VMotion to perform maintenance or for emergencies, but why not have a crystal clear license and avoid the ambiguity altogether?

How to find linux replacements for Windows Programs at OSAlt.Com

One of the biggest hurdles to new users of Linux is finding alternative software for some of their Windows applications that they were using. You could, of course, continue running Windows as a virtual machine on your Linux desktop. However, some people may want to transition to Linux completely.

The website OSAlt.Com hopes to remedy this situation. It has the largest database of open source alternative programs that I have seen. Just do a search in the top right for the Windows application that you want to replace with an open source equivalent.

If you find a really cool open source alternative for a Microsoft program, let me know in the comments…

Happy Searching!

New Site- GetBlogucated.Blogspot.Com

So I started a new blog on Blogger called “Blogucated”. The idea is that we can learn from each other (blogs and webpages). I have created a google custom search available at the site to search “How-To and Educational Articles.” So far I have had really good results with my searches. As people suggest more sites to search, the search engine will become even more useful.

I will also have various articles and link highlights available at the site that will be contributed by guest bloggers.

Go check it out at getblogucated.blogspot.com.

Or to find out more about the blog, visit the First Post and Welcome Page.

Please let me know what you think in the comments at getblogucated.blogspot.com.

I mean where else would you find a link to soft drink naming (pop, coke, soda) convention demographics for every county in the US?
